Return to US! Should I take a flight or train?

We leave Sorrento/Amalfi to Malpensa around the 31st or the 1st. Should we take a train or plane? And if so where is Fiumiciono? How do I find that in Rome. I don't see it near the Termini in Rome so far...is it in this area. Has anyone taken the easy jet? How was it?

If you mean Fiumicino, it's about fifteen miles west of Rome on the coast. Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) must be where you're trying to get to. The rest of your question has me confused.

If you're near Sorrento/Amalfi, why not take a plane from Naples to Malpensa. It's a lot closer than going up to Rome. I think she means has anyone taking Easyjet?

Monique, Given the circumstances you mentioned, my suggestion would be to travel from Sorrento / Amalfi to Naples and then take the EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita trains to Milano Centrale. There are direct trains (no changes) from Napoli Centrale to Milano Centrale, with travel times of about 4H:44M. One point to note with the direct trains - although there are no changes, there are several stops. Once you arrive in Milan, you can reach MXP either via train (regular train or Malpensa Express) or the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus). I would NOT suggest travelling by air from Rome to Milan, as it will take longer, and without a doubt it will be more of a hassle! As an native, travel via budget air from Naples to Milan might be a good method. The least expensive flights they have listed today on that route are about €61 PP and the flights are 1H:30M. You should be able to take the Curreri Bus from Sorrento directly to Naples Airport. If you're going to use this option, it would be a good idea to book SOON, before the flight fills up and the prices increase. To answer your question, I've always found EasyJet to be a good airline to use (I travelled with them about a month ago from Prague to Milan). They are a budget airline though, so have rules concerning carry-on and luggage. As the others have mentioned, Fiumicino is the main airport in Rome. It's easily reachable from Termini via the Leonardo Express (train). It operates frequently and only takes 30 minutes to the airport. Happy travels!

Just left Sorrento for Rome. Took the Eurostar from Sorrento to the Termini in Rome and from there, took the local train (leonardo?) to the airport in Rome, Fiumicino. The trains seemed like a lot less hassle than the airports...to me, anyway.

Ooops...correction: We took the 1) Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Naples 2) the Eurostar from Naples to Rome/Termini 3) Local train (Leonardo?) from the Termini to the airport
Still seemed easier than the hassle of airports
