My husband and I will be returning a rental car in Venice, but I notice we can usually choose between the airport and Piazza Roma. After we return our car we will be staying in Venice near St. Mark's. I have received some advice from a friend, but am looking for a bit more feedback on where it is the most convenient, easiest to find, etc.

Hi Cindy,
We are doing the same exact thing this spring. If you are returning on a Sunday after 12:30, your only option would be the airport. Since that is the case with us, I checked to make sure we could easily get from the airport to the San Marco area, and we can. We are staying on the Grand Canal. Transfers are expensive and it would be easier to return closer to San Marco if you can. Happy travels!

Just to clear up a minor point, transfers from the airport don't have to be expensive. you can take either the orange ACTV bus for 2 euros per person or the blue ATVO bus for 3 euros per person to Piazzale Roma. Both busses leave from in front of the terminal and arrive at P.le Roma where you can pick up a vaporetto to other points in Venice.

Hello Cindy,
I would strongly reccomend returning the rental car at Piazzale Roma. We returned our car there back in 2008 and it was so easy. All the rental agencies are at the end of the causeway and easy to find. Plus driving the causeway is so scenic- like driving to Oz (if one could).
On our first trip to Italy, we had to drop off our car in Florence... that was an adventure.
We are returning to Italy this year and we'll be picking up our car at Piazzale Roma. Its easy.

Thank you, everyone! I was under the incorrect assumption that signs would be easier to follow to the airport, but now I will return it to Piazza Roma. Thanks so much for your advice and experiences!!!
