I picked this news and link up from someone over on the TripAdvisor forum:
Use your device's translation tool for the full text but the tall and short of it is that they're re-instituting the ability for non-residents to freely drive the 163 state coastal road from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m to the odd/even numbers of a vehicle's license plate. This restriction currently runs April 3 to 10 April, and 24 April to 2 May, and I think it's entirely possible it will be enacted for other heavy travel periods throughout high season.
"On these dates, the transit with alternate plates of all vehicles will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in this way:
on days with odd dates, transit prohibited for plates with the last odd digit; on days with an even date, transit prohibited for plates with the last even numeric digit."
This is the most important piece for tourists with rental or leased cars:
"Guests of hotel and non-hotel facilities with regular reservations are also authorized to circulate limited to the movements necessary for arrival and departure;"
I'm taking this to mean that you would be allowed to access and depart your hotel on restriction days for your license plate but not to drive 163 otherwise, and I am assuming there will be spot checks.
In case I'm not reading the translated version correctly, please chime in!!! As well, if anyone has further info on the subject, please share. They add that the Luna Rossa car park in Amalfi is undergoing construction so parking is currently very limited in that area.
