Is it possible to travel to Locarno from Stresa & return on the same day?

I had this info saved ( we ended up postponing our trip, so no first hand experience yet)
However The Maggiore Express is not running now due to COVID
You don’t say when you are traveling but if train and ferry are running you can also do this on your own

We are going on a Sunday in October, but I don't see information to purchase a ticket to travel from Stresa to Locarno

Not sure what the crossing into Switzerland would require now either

It's not the fastest route, but if you have some extra time going in one direction, you can take the Centovalli rail line between Domodossola and Locarno. It's a very nice ride through back-of-beyond country. There are trains linking Stresa and Domodossola.
