Restaurants with view for dinner in Venice

Hi fellow travelers
We will be in Venice in mid May for 5 days.
We will be staying almost next to St Marks Square.

Looking for recommendations for restaurants with water view (to enjoy the sunset ) and to have a reasonably priced dinner. Not looking for an exorbitantly priced restaurant with a tasting menu . Would prefer à la carte menu but a reasonable priced fixed menu will also do,

TIA

Cross over to Dorsoduro and stroll doen to the Guidecca side. There are a number of restaurants with terraces overlooking the canal.

How long does it take to reach it from St Marks Square.

It's quick if you take the vapp.

I expected to see really bad suggestions because honestly there are so many very mediocre tourist restaurants along the canal that thrive solely because of the view.
...But then the very first suggestion; going over to Guidecca, is really pretty inspired. And after a few days in Venice, you'll appreciate the relative calm of that side of the lagoon.

I'd add that these are great lunch spots as well.

There are a few nice, a bit touristy, restaurants on Campo San Giacomo, near Rialto Bridge, right on the Grand Canal: Caffe Vergnano, Naranzaria, Al Pesador, Al Chiccheteria, Ancora.

Hi Chris

This is my first visit to Venice and we are staying at a hotel touching St. Marks Square. When I google Guidecca and the distance to Tratorria Ai Cacciatori , it shows me a walk cum ferry ride of about 30 mins. I see a ferry starts at St. Matks Sw
Hate. Is that correct ? Is it easy to get the ferry at night ?

How would you rate some other restaurants in Giudecca like Harry’s Dolci, Cip’s Club , La Palanca etc.

Also what’s your impression about Gritti Terrace, Lineadombra and Gios at St. Regis ? Are they too expensive and not worth the money ? If I would like to splurge on one dinner, not more than $ 200 for both of us, what you recommend ?
We are non alcoholic so no wines.

Will really appreciate your inputs.
TIA

I don't know most of those options. On those islands, I have eaten at and liked La Palanca, do Mori, and a couple other places that I can't recall.
No view but near San Marco, I can recommend Ai Mercanti for fish. Osteria Alla Frasca is a bit of a walk but I think the food is really good.

But honestly; there's absolutely nothing wrong with splashing out for your squid ink pasta meal on the Grand Canal. It'll be better than 95% of the Italian food back home and that million dollar view makes even average food taste like Michelin starred cuisine. It's part of the experience and I hope I didn't mean to pee in anybody's cornflakes with my comment. I just was blow away that the first recommendation is to hop the vaporetto to Guidecca (which I think is pretty inspired)

The vaporetti run very late and some of the main lines run pretty much all night I think. You should be able to see a schedule if you google the line.

We generally avoid canal side places to eat as they are usually overpriced and under quality. There is, however, an exception that is very close to San Marco.. You might want to try Trattoria Da Giorgia ai Greci. It is a very short walk from S. Marco, and an easy way to get away from the crowds.

One of our favorite places (but not on a canal -- and in the Rialto Bridge area) is a place named Trattoria Da Marco Valla Fava on Calle Stagneri. It is definitely an upscale place that has some of the best sea food ever!! Try to eat inside rather than outside. The place has been around at least 50 years so they must be doing it right.

At the other end of the scale, also in the Rialto area on the other side of the Grand Canal when walking to Piazzale Roma, is an out of the way place named Pane Vino e San Daniele on Calle Dei Boteri. Definitely a local place, good food, good house wine, and not expensive at all.

You should be able to check out all of them on the internet, and Google Maps street view is a great tool to locate these places and "walk" to them ahead of time.

While in Venice last May, we had drinks and cichetti's at Terrazza Nobli along the Zattere (promenade) on the Guidecca Canal. We did this twice, and it is one of our fondest memories of Venice. We were seated literally on the water. Could dip our hand in the water if we wanted to. The cichetti's and drinks were delicious and very reasonably priced. This restaurant also serves lunch and dinner.

We had a delicious dinner at Muro Frari which is next to a side canal. They have a terrace for outdoor dining. I think there is a view of the Frari church depending on where you sit.

Hi TC

Thanks for taking the time to write out your recommendations. I really appreciate it.

I did google all of the restaurants you have mentioned and really liked the look and feel of Trattoria Da Giorgia ai Greci. As it is barely a 5 mins walk from my hotel we may go there for dinner on our first night in Venice, as we will barely reach the hotel from Naples by 6 pm and this restaurant is so close by. Thanks once again as this seems to be a perfect fit.

Any recommendations on what to order ?

TIA
