restaurants where the locals eat in VENICE at the end of August

I am one of 4 adults traveling and we will be in Venice for 3 lunches and 3 dinners before we board our cruise on August 30. Our hotel is a few blocks away from St. Mark's square near the Bridge of Sighs.
Can anyone recommend local Venetian style restaurants - not looking for expensive tourist spots? I'm looking for the kind of restaurant that if you were home, it would be your favorite down-to-earth restaurant.
thanks

If you are expecting to eat 6 meals in Venice it would certainly be worth buying the latest edition of Venice osterie by Michela Scibilia which is a guide by a Venetian resident.
Her descriptions of the various restaurants, trattorias and bars have been pretty much spot on at each of the places we have eaten. Rather than giving too many personal recommendations I will restrict myself to the alla Palanca which is on Giudecca and is open for lunch only . It has really good sea food and a magnificent view of the Riva delle Zattere as well as being cheap (by Venetian standards).
I think her guide might be available as an app but apps aren't really my thing.

Michaela Scibilia also has an app for iphone called Tap Venice. I don't know if the app is for other phones. I used this app extensively in 2011 and plan to use it again this fall. I didn't have one bad experience with restaurants she recommended. She also has an updated version of her book due to be published in March which you can pre-order from Amazon.
You also may need to travel a bit to get to most of the less touristy spots but walking and riding the vaporetto are two of my favorite ways to spend time in Venice. Try to get to Cannaregio while you are there. Real Venetians still live there and it's amazing.

As a rule of thumb, get away from the Grand Canal where the tourists throng.
I haven't sampled many Venice restaurants but I liked Osteria Mocenigo, Salizzada San Stae 1919.Here is a photo and a map. http://www.stay.com/venice/restaurant/3777/osteria-mocenigo/
It's open daily, lunch and dinner, with a few seats on the sidewalk outside. Fish and grilled meats at a moderate cost with lots of locals, some just dropped in to sip a drink and talk.
I stayed at a small hotel where the manager made this recommendation. I've done the same before; they're in the business so I trust the advice.
