Looking for restaurant recommendations in Verona. Especially interested in places that aren't the normal tourist destinations right by the Arena.
We stayed in Verona for 5 nights less than a month ago and we really liked these four places:
La Taverna di Via Stella
Osteria il Ciottolo
Trattoria al Pompiere
Osteria il Bertoldo
Thanks, @nancyscherer8! Any perspective on your favorite parts of Verona?
About a 5 minute walk from Piazza Bra, try L’Orologio at Corso Porta Nuova 7. Great local specialties, excellent service, about 30 different wines by the glass, very few tourists if any!
We really enjoyed our dinner at Osteria IL Bertoldo,, mentioned above. The room is lovely, the host friendly and welcoming, and the food was excellent. It is southern Italian, with more seafood than the traditional Veronese cuisine.
Areas to walk around in or areas to stay in? We stayed in an apartment a few steps from Osteria Il Bertoldo and liked that neighborhood. The area around "Juliet's balcony" was a zoo and we tried to avoid it. The castle and its bridge were cool. My husband went to an opera in the Arena and loved that.
We really, really enjoyed the sculptures around the entry door of the Basilica of San Zeno and even more the cast metal (bronze, I think?) doors inside. Also the church of San Fermo, especially the wooden ceiling.
As for walking around in Verona, we love walking around anywhere in Italy, but we found that we preferred other smaller and more medieval towns in the Veneto for wandering around in.
When I lived in Verona, Marechiaro was a favorite pizzeria and restaurant- friendly staff and great food!
Thanks for all the suggestions.
