Some hints: Try to stay away from the restaurants directly on any Piazza; which are usually centered on tourists. Look for smaller, almost hole in the wall eateries which usually have good, down home cooking, low prices and plentiful dishes.
If you're on the go, grab a panino (single sandwich) from a supermarket. One time I bought a salad & fresh Panino from the Coop, an Italian supermarket. Some are larger than others. You can order at the deli and create your own special panino. Maybe have a slice of pizza (pizza al taglio) (all over the city) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza_al_taglio
There is also suppli; Italian street food. A take on Arancini (stuffed rice balls) popular in Sicily.
Are you near or will be near Termini area? There are a lot of nice, home-style restaurants, inexpensive with full dishes.
Oh, in case you aren't aware, tipping is not expected --- not really necessary --- but if inclined, round up a Euro; I'm sure the waitstaff will be appreciative.
A lot of sit down restaurants may charge for bread on the table which is usually? 1,30€ or so in mid-range eateries. If you don't want it nor plan to eat it, tell the waitstaff before they serve it so you are not charged.
A little reminder, it's a good idea to check your meal bill --- innocent mistakes can happen. Know your menu prices before its taken away. If you drink, house wine is not expensive. I like Pinot Grigio, so I have one glass; it's about 5€. Nastro Azzurro, Italian beer, (birra) is not that expensive as a whole. I'm not sure about call brand liquor or name brand beers.
If you try the search bar above, you will see this has been asked and answered many times each year.
Thank you so much!
I am staying by the Spanish steps. No budget just want good food. Great suggestions
You're welcome Yolie. Just also note that places around the Trevi Fountain will be on the high side.
I didn't eat in the area of the Spanish Steps, but I doubt you'll go hungry, lol.
Enjoy!
LoL, "fun fact" The first McD's opened near the Spanish Steps in 1986! There ya go, lol. Grab a Happy Meal and get a surprise inside. Piazza di Spagna, 46, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

The Roman Guy (most of the vids are usually hosted by Sean or Bojan) Both guys give some great ideas, facts and details about Rome and her neighborhoods. The guys are also pretty funny.
Check out some of their blog http://theromanfoodie.com/rome-food-blog/ for ideas. Maybe something will spark an interest?
In Rome, you might want to try Antica Enoteca on Via della Croce, a few blocks west of the Spanish Steps. (Sorry to link to TA but the restaurant doesn't seem to have its own website -- a good sign?) I had dinner there twice on my recent trip, once with a group and again on my own because I liked it so much.
Awesome! Thank you
