Restaurants In Vatican City Area

I have seen a few previously posts regarding this question but they are a few years old. If anyone can give me some ideas that would be great.

We just returned from Rome and were actually staying very near the Vatican. We had a lovely lunch at the Luma Bistro. It's within probably a 10-15 minute walking distance from the Vatican. Not sure exactly how much, but there are a few places to eat nearby.

I spent 9 weeks in Europe last summer and one of my favorite restaurants was Rossini. It's not near the Vatican but is near the Borghese Gallery. They have 3 separate areas, a taverna, a ristorante, and a fish restaurant - also a wonderful place for that morning espresso, standing at the counter like an Italian. The guests are all speaking Italian so it's obviously not a "tourist" restaurant. The waiters are brusk - after all it's Italy but they will warm up to you if you ask questions. And most of them speak a reasonable amount of English. The best gelato in Rome: Iamotti Gelateria, Via Trionfale 122, Roma. Two brothers own it, fresh milk is delivered every morning and the day is spent making gelato from seasonal ingredients. My favorites - Black cherry chocolate and pistaccio. It's a 20 minute walk from St Peter's Square. Enjoy

We were just there last month and really struggled to find any restaurants that weren't tourist traps. We ate at Insalata Ricca and I found it disappointing. I found myself wishing we just had a picnic lunch to eat at the park area that surrounds Castel Santangelo.

The Luma Bistro is quite exotic if you were to ask me.

Il Colbri! Absolutely loved this place, just went last year. Small, family run restaurant with great food and service. Close to Vatican Museum. Fantastic carbonara, open for lunch and dinner. Went on my first night in Rome, and went back to make a reservation for my last night!

I had a lovely post Vatican tour lunch at Romolo alla Mole Adriana with 8 friends to celebrate a birthday during our 10 day April 2017 Rome visit. The rooftop terrace was enclosed at that time but it was apparent that the area was open in warmer weather. The address is Vicolo del Campanile 12 between Borgo Sant Angelo and Borgo Pio and about two thirds of the distance between Saint Peter's Basilica and Castel Sant Angelo. The service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the cost was reasonable. Part of a medieval wall is visible through the glass wall of the main dining area.

Generally, we do not eat in restaurants located near the Vatican. However, several years ago we found a place called Il Bersagliere Roma located several streets away from the Vatican. All of the diners in this place were other Italians and they seemed quite happy with their selections.

We ate here two times and were satisfied with our selections. Check Tripadvisor.

Buon viaggio,

In 2016 I ate at the terrace restaurant at Residenza Paolo VI which is located about 100 yards from St. Peter's Basilica. The views of the lighted dome of St Peter's at night are incredible. It is open to the public from 4pm until midnight. The building itself does not appear to be a hotel because you need to ring a buzzer to gain entry. I am traveling to Rome next month and intend to go there again. The address is Via Paolo 29 Vaticano-Piazza San Pietro. Check out TripAdvisor for photos and reviews. There was also no service fee added on to the bill.

La Zanzara, Via Crescenzio 84, 00193 Rome. 10 minutes or less from the Vatican, we ate there last July, and got a table outside. Good food, price and service. We would return, but next year we're hoping for Northern Italy. Enjoy!
