We will be staying in an small flat in Trastevere and love to eat good food! We would appreciate any recommendations for good places to eat, not too expensive, in the area or across the river within walking distance?
Can't really remember the places we ate in Trastevere but the best way is to hit the streets walking and you will bump into many mom and pop establishments. Everyplace we ate was great!!! Have fun!!!
Kathy,
One restaurant that I really enjoyed was Z'mberto (hope I got the spelling correct?). It's close to Piazza Trilussa. There was also a nice Pizza restaurant within a few feet of the Piazza (downhill from the Piazza).
There are lots of great restaurants in that area, and of course Gelato shops.
I'm going to try and take better notes in future, so that I have some record of good restaurants.
Happy travels!
We liked Popi Popi, (http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4RNWN_enUS284US284&um=1&q=popi+popi+rome&fb=1&view=text&latlng=4672312878439050596) more for the pasta and other items but the pizza was good as well. The best pizza is in the Trastevere, Da Ivo is often mentioned, but Dar Poeta is supreme (http://www.fodors.com/world/europe/italy/rome/review-38462.html) Try the dessert calzone with ricotta and nutella, wow! there are many restaurants in the area, just wander and look at the menus, it is hard to go wrong.
I enjoy Ai Spaghettari on Piazza San Cosimano (short walk from Santa Maria in Trastevere church - standing by fountain and facing church, take street to your left and then veer right at Y). Good for either pizza or a full meal. Website is www.aispaghettari.it. Menu on website is only a sampling of their full menu.
I'm a big fan of La Fraschetta in Trastevere: http://www.lafraschetta.com/. Good food with lots of menu options and the prices won't break your budget.
