La Rampa.
Another vote for La Rampa. We were just there in June and it was delicious! The Spanish Steps were, IMHO, disappointing. When compared to the other spectacular sights in Rome, the Spanish Steps are ho-hum. But walking around the area window shopping, people watching and dinner at La Rampa makes for a nice evening.
at the top of the steps is a hotel, I think its called the Hassler or Haessler Hotel. Its a little pricey, but they have a restaurant at the top with beautiful views of the city. If you're on a budget, maybe they would just let you go up to see, or just order dessert....
Otello alla Concordia at Via della Croce 81 is great and very reasonably priced.
We ate two nights in a row at Il Pomodorino because it was so good and it is a very easy walk from there. It is located on Via Campania just inside the wall around the city. It is real close to the US Embassy. Their website is www.ilpomodorino.org
