Restaurants in Rome? Authentic, Atmosphere and Good??

Yes, I know that there are probably hundreds of threads on here about this - But I will throw my hat into the ring. The WIFE and I are heading to Rome on our honeymoon in 2 Weeks. Staying in Trastevere - Looking for good, authentic, great atmosphere places to eat - dont need to be in Trastevere, but within a relative quick walk, or cab ride, will do.

Let me know! All your choices - on or off the beaten path. We are looking for a FOODIES experience in Rome.

Thank You!!!!!

My two faves are The Library Bistrot in the center and L'Asino d'Oro in Monti near the colosseum. Been to both repeatedly. The Library is terribly romantic. Not sure how "authentic" it is but everyone has different definitions for that. For a Michelin star splurge, try Il Convivio Troiani. Foodies rave about this place any time you say you are going to Rome. We went and liked it but didn't love it. Loved the food but was too formal for my taste. Congrats!

How do you define "authentic?" Places locals go? Is formality a requirement?

You will not get better fish in a more Italian environment than La Fraschetta del Pesce but it is casual and a bit of a trip. Cab recommended, at least from Tiburtina Station, unl;ess you know the Roma bus system. Prices are VERY good but it is not particularly romantic.

I agree with L'Asino d'Oro. Fabulous!

A other favorite of ours is 44. Just of XX Settembre not far from the American Embassy.

Wherever you go, be certain to make a reservation. Even Sunday night (last night) was busy out of the center in a residential area. May is hopping in Rome!
