Restaurants in Rome and Florence

Looking for good restaurants in Rome and Florence that are not tourist traps for Mid Sept. I tried Armando al Pantheon and its book already for Mid September :( 5 adults.

Since we'll be in Rome on the weekend would like ones we can make reservations for.

Thank you,

Look at Elizabeth Minichelli’s EAT ROME
and Katie Parla’s Rome, both very helpful Apps.

We were in Italy and can recommend the following restaurants:

  • Rome: Spritio DiVino, http://www.ristorantespiritodivino.com. It is in Trastevere and not only has excellent food, but is housed in an old building with a wine cellar dating to the Roman republic.
  • Rome: Enoteca Corsi, http://www.enotecacorsi.com. Just a few steps from the Pantheon, it is a small local wine bar with an excellent lunch and dinner menu. We ate their twice last month.
  • Rome: not a restaurant, but the most fantastic bite in Rome—Suppli’. This bite-sized snack is filled with mozzarella cheese surrounded by a mixture of risotto, egg and tomato sauce, which is then coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. https://www.suppliroma.it
  • Florence: Trattoria Pandemonia, http://www.trattoriapandemonio.it. Typical Florentine Trattoria with excellent food and service. We celebrated my friend’s birthday there and they not only gave him birthday cake, but also sang Happy Birthday.

In both cities we took the Eating Italy Sunset Food Tours. Here is the link for Florence with their recommendations of restaurants: https://www.eatingitalyfoodtours.com/florence/travel-guide/ and Rome

Have a great trip,
Sandy

We liked Nino in Rome located near the Spanish Steps and a favorite is Perilli on Via Marmotta--a bit out of the way but worth it. Our last meal at Armando was very mediocre and disappointing. Cul de Sac is very good for lunch--never had dinner there. Trattoria il Sostanza in Florence is great--very small, two seatings at dinner, reservations essential. We reserved for Nino and have had lunch at Perili several times. Their stuffed zucchini was wonderful.

Susan is right: Cul de Sac for lunch, not dinner. Good for aperitivo also.

We love Pizzeria da Remo, Pizzeria Dar Poeta, and Pizzeria La Pratolina. Reservations required at the last one. Call a couple of days early.

For non-pizza:

Taverna Rossini will get you out of Rome Central and into a neighborhood.

In Prati (same side of the river as the Vatican), SiciliainBocca is very good and also out of the tourist fray.

If you are not sure about public transportation, taxis are cheap so use them to your benefit and get out of the center.

If Spirito di Vino interests you, it's wise to email before August 1 regarding a mid-September reservation. They close for all of August and reopen "sometime" in September. If they won't be open on your requested date, they'll let you know when they expect to reopen. Also, they only serve dinner and are closed on Sunday.

We never went to tourist spots. Off-season we'd walk right in to a place that looked good and usually our instincts were right on.

Florence: Ristorante Toto, Ciro & Sons

Rome: Pizzeria Emma, Elle Effe
