Florence - a great local restaurant Mama Gina's on Borgo san Jacopo.

Go north across the Ponte Vecchio and turn right at the first street, Borgo San Jacopo. It's on the left - I want to go there now !!!

You could also look for these cities in the sections on trip reports and hotel/restaurant reviews on this site (Rick Steves' Europe).

Definitely Pizzeria Da Mamo in Venice. Inexpensive but you need a reservation (can be booked online through their web site). They have seriously the best pizzas and their other dishes are all excellent too! We ate there 4 times in 6 days in August & the owner even recognized us by the 4th time and gave us a discount. It's a very small place but they turn out good quality food! Enjoy!

Sorry, we didn't like Mama Gina's so much. Loved Birreria Centrale in Florence! Make a reservation.

I have only been to Florence, so here are some places we liked. We love Trattoria Mario for bistecca alla fiorentina. They are only open at lunch 12pm-3:30pm Mon-Sat, no reservations, communale seating, cash only. Location is via Rosina 2r near Mercato Centrale. The pizza at GustaPizza is excellent. It is at via Maggia 46r near Santo Spirito. Trattoria Sostanza is great. It was our best dinner in Florence. It is located at via del Porcellana 25r. Reservations are a must for dinner(you will need to call or stop by). There are two settings for dinner, but they are also open at lunch. The butter chicken, artichoke omelette and homemade dessert are amazing. The house wine is great too. Cash only, and again you may be seated with others. Have a wonderful trip!

Check out the TA reviews...(rated #44 out of 1200 restaurants)...

(Sorry - didn't realize I was signed into TA when I shared that link...lol - you can just go on TA and search for the restaurant and see the great reviews...)

It's in the San Polo area - not too far from the Rialto, but it's a bit 'hidden'...

Florence - La Spada is near SMN. Good food, fair prices, casual. When you want an easy, solid meal. Leonardo's is a budget cash- only cafeteria style place near the Duomo complex. Not fancy food by any means. But, a cheap and good reprieve from sightseeing. It 's on the second floor of a building.
Venice - Impronta Cafe in San Polo area. You do not get a view. Trendy, modern decor. Excellent food and wine at a good price, especially for Venice. You can tripadvisor these places for details.

Florence -- IL Brincello, 110 Via Nazionale, near Via Guelfa, not too far from SMN station, down home cooking, cozy casual.

I really like the Golden View restaurant in Florence. It is on the west side on the Arno River just south of the Ponte Vecchio Bridge by about 150 feet. It has the best view of the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Reservations are required unless you eat around 6:00 pm. It is also great for lunch.
