Restaurant suitable for big group in Florence and Siena

If you have eaten at a decent Italian restaurant in Florence or Siena suitable for a group of around 50 people, please let me know! I've been to Florence many times, but have never had the group eat together for dinner, and would like to this time around. Siena is totally new to me.

You should be able to ask the people at the place you're staying for a recommendation.

Hi Michael,

That I am aware of! In my experience, the hotels often have business agreements with a local restaurant and may not necessarily be giving you the best recommendation. For example, the hotel I took my group to in Budapest this year had a restaurant right beside it that it recommended - awful, and much more money than the one I found myself on the second day we were there. In the many years I have been doing this, I have found personal recommendations from fellow travellers much more valuable.

Hi Craig,

In March 2007 we were in Siena where I had volunteered to do a little recon work for some friends (in Chicago) who were to be married there later that year. Included in my "job" was to suss out potential restaurants in which to hold the reception, which was to be for about 25 people.

I just found my notes and thought I would share them even though your group will be twice the size of what I was looking for - it might be a place to start, at least (and we only personally ate at one of the following restaurants but you may be able to find reviews online for the others).

Antica Trattoria "Papei" (Piazza del Mercato, 6): we ate here, the food wasn't the best we had in Italy but it most definitely wasn't the worst. They had a private dining room but I'm unsure of how many it seats.

Osteria le Logge (Via del Porrione 33; www.osterialelogge.it): restaurant looked fantastic (I seem to recall you can watch the kitchen through the window from the street), been in business since 1977. They had a private dining room upstairs.

Antica Osteria Da Divo (Via Franciosa 25; www.osteriadadivo.it): this is where our friends ended up having their reception and they could not speak more highly about the place/food (private dining upstairs, I believe).

These restaurants were the top contenders from our friends, who had done a lot of research on the matter. The restaurant management we spoke with (at each place) seemed willing to tailor a menu for ease of service.

Again, I don't know if you'll find this helpful, but you never know...

Good luck!

Thanks Angela - that is exactly the kind of response I'm looking for when I post questions here!

This is a very good place right in Piazza Santa Croce - we eat there all the time and I recommend it to everyone, friends, family, etc.
