Restaurant suggestion in Trestavare

Does anyone have a recommendation for a casual restaurant in Trestavare? Something not too touristy, family friendly (with teenagers).

In good weather Galeassi is a place to people watch and to soak in the scene. It is right on the Pz SM in Trastevere and it has outdoor seating. Large umbrellas provide shade. The food was ok, not great (I can't even remember what I had) and the service was a little slow, but I was there for the ambiance so it did not matter. If your teenagers get bored they can sit on the large fountain and hang out; the fountain is directly in front of the restaurant. We've eaten twice at Trattoria da Lucia - check out the reviews on Trip Advisor to see it it's a place you think that you'd like. We usually try to arrive right after they open so that there is not a wait. We like sitting outside. We've found the service to be fine and the food to be very good!

Dar Poeta gets mixed reviews, but we loved their pizza when we were in Trastevere last October. Also really liked Roma Sparita, in the moderate price range, famous for Cacio e Pepe. I have my eye on La Gatta Mangiona http://www.lagattamangiona.com/ thanks to Katie Parla's website http://www.parlafood.com/ for our next trip later this year. Good luck and have fun! Rome is a wonderful place to eat.

Friends of mine stayed in Trastevere (note the spelling) this past April and absolutely swear by Dar Poeta. They kept going back because it was so good. It gets glowing reviews on TripAdvisor: Dar Poeta on TA

Dar Poeta was really good for the price. We shared a small table with two local gentlemen one of which spoke English. He said not to eat the pizza with your hands and advised against Cappuccino (which is for breakfast) and recommended Espresso instead. When the waitress brought it before desert he argued with her that it wasn't correct and I could tell she told him we wouldn't know the difference. My wife assured me they were a couple and looking back I guess she was right. The dinner was enjoyable and educational on many levels.

Dar Poeta is great for pizza, but not very relaxing, as it is loud and packed; plus limited to pizza and salads. Just around the corner in Piazza Della Scala is la Scala, http://www.ristorantelascala.it/ a very nice restaurant with a great menu, can be casual, but very nice. Another favorite for us that is very casual, but great food is Popi Popi http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187791-d1034647-Reviews-Pizzeria_Popi_Popi-Rome_Lazio.html Popi Popi is great for pizza, but they have a full menu, fantastic pasta and antipasti, and plenty of room to stretch out. I would still try to hit Dar Poeta, but would maybe consider one of these.
