We will be arriving in Florence late afternoon, and would like to find a good restaurant for dinner near our hotel. We will have a 9 year old with us.
Which side of the river?
Northern side, our hotel is on Borgo Santi Apostoli. Anyone gone to Trattoria Nella?
When we visited Florence several years ago, with our 10yo daughter, we had a delightful meal at Del Fagioli,
Corso dei Tintori, 47-red. It's about a 10-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio. Another choice that we've enjoyed previously, though less so on our more recent trip, is Ristorante Buca Dell'Orafo, via de' Girolami, 28-red, just a minute or so from the Ponte Vecchio. Very good bistecca alla' fiorentino, though my husband preferred his at Del Fagioli.
I was going to suggest Del Fagioli as well. It is a small, famly-friendly place, casual, with very good food. You will get a very warm welcome but not an English menu. There is at least one waiter who speaks English and will explain the menu if you don't know enough Italian. The place was filled with locals and good humor. We shared a large table with another family, they at one end and us at the other. You can make a reservation on 2Spaghi (It's like Open Table for Italian restaurants): http://www.2spaghi.it/ristoranti/toscana/fi/firenze/ristorante-fagioli/ Note that it gets great reviews from the Italians too.
