Restaurant Recommendations near Campo de Fiori and Largo di Torre Argentina

I am looking for good restaurants in the area of Largo di Torre Argentina and Campo de Fiori. We plan to be in this area around lunch time and are looking for a good but not overly expensive meal (good pizzeria maybe?). We will also be in this area around dinner time another day and am looking for a good quality restaurant in which budget is a little less of an issue. Thanks!

I have stayed in this area, but haven't found a place that was really memorable. I would try a few restaurants that are a few blocks north of the Pantheon. Also, use the RS guide for suggestions. I think I am going to try more of Rick's recommendations this time around myself.

Just past Piazza Farnese (behind Campo dei Fiori) there is a cute little bar/cafe, Cafe Peru. It's the kind of place working Romans stop for lunch, featuring panini and limited hot items. It is also a great place for coffee and pastry as they do not charge extra to sit down.

West of Piazza Navona is Antica Taverna, one of our favorites in Rome. Reasonable prices, simple Roman food, nice outside dining area, excellent service.

You can also look for one of the street pizza places, like Alice (Ah-LEECH-ay). There is one on Via dei Giubbonari, just off CdF. They sell by weight, it is a good value, and some of the locations have seating. Not sure about the one at CdF.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I have noted the ones mentioned. Anyone else with some recommendations feel free to share!

Are the pizza by a slice places (I assume most charge by weight? So much per kilo right?) a good value or are you usually better off just getting a whole pizza somewhere? I guess the ability to get a variety would make up for any cost difference.

Pizza sold by weight is cut in rectangular pieces from big pans. You can get a few varieties in whatever size or weight you want - my favorite is the mozzarella, squash blossom and anchovy (seasonal). Don't worry about ordering in metric - the server will prompt you for the size you want, or you can say how much you want to spend per selection.

Roma Sparita in Trastevere is very good. It's close to Lago di Torre Argentina. Their cheese and pepper pasta is famous, but all their items are good.

A 3-minute walk south and west of Campo de' Fiori on Largo dei Librari is Filetti di Baccala.

Mentioned in Rick's Rome book, it is truly Italian fast food. You walk in and order fried cod filet, and it's wrapped in either butcher paper or newspaper. On the tiny piazza that Filetti di Baccala resides, you will see many locals and tourists walking around munching on their fish. Hot & delicious.

Also served is puntarelle salad, Italian chicory leaves & stems washed, scored and dried. Looking a little like frisee salad, it is served with olive oil, pepper and a couple of anchovy fillets--it's crunchy & tangy. What's really neat is that puntarelle is indigenous solely to this neighborhood of Rome. At the Campo de' Fiori morning market, you can see old women dressed in black who sit for hours, and have mastered the arduous task of scoring the puntarelle stems & leaves.

We like Ditirambo located right near Campo Firori--learned about it in Bon Appetit Magazine. Baffeto has good pizza and there are several of them.
