Restaurant recommendations in Venice

Can you please give me recommendations for restaurants in Venice that will have something more than fish? We have been looking at online menus, and it seems to be fish, fish, fish. I understand that Venice is known for seafood, but neither my husband nor I eat fish.

Well it is a group of islands and the laguna is populated by peopel who make their living off of fish.... But most places have non-fish-oriented pastas. Meat is terribly expensive in Italy as a rule, so beware the price of a steak. Lecture over. Check out La Zucca in Santa Croce. You must have a reservation and it must be made several days in advance, but it's not terribly expensive and it is worth the pre-planning. Also, build a meal around cichetti, do a pub crawl. We had decent pizza at Antico Panaficio and pasta at Nono Risorto.

If your aversion to fish has something to do with an allergy, be aware that some pastas and risottos are made with fish broth. Best to ask the waiter. The pub crawl idea sounds great. You can google "vegetarian restaurants Venice Italy" for more help with this.

Do a cicchetti crawl. Cheap and fun. Yes seafood is a Venetian staple but you can find meats, cheeses, and veggies and excellent pastry. Ca' d'Oro/Alla Vedova. Calle del Pistor, Cannaregio 3912.
Order polpette, meatballs made of pork. All'Arco. Calle Arco, San Polo 436 Ask for the hot boiled beef sausage and mustard sandwich. Al Ponte. Calle Larga Giacinto Gallina. Besides fish has pastas. Alla Zucca if still operating meets your needs. Jamie Oliver suggest these this places: Dalla Marisa, Fondamenta San Giobbe, Cannaregio and Al Vecio Fritoin Santa Croce 2262 (Calle della Regina)

We had an apartment on Calle Lunga San Barnaba in Dorsoduro and discovered that at least half of the restaurants I had taken notes about were on the same street, right at or off Campo San Barnaba. Had good food at a number of them and ate no fish, just mainly pasta of various kinds.

Ooh, I'm going to have to take note of all these places! I love fish, but my travel buddy can't stand it. Thanks everyone!

There are lots of restaurants everywhere. Keep away from the main squares, go down small alleys, a pub crawl is fun. We were on the island for a week and never ate at the same place. Met up with some cruise people and went to the Bacaro Jazz Restaurant, off the Rialto bridge. Great place, good food and friendly and handsome waiters. One thing special about the bar is there are hundreds of bras hanging from the ceiling that was left by women. It's a site to see. Sit at the bar and enjoy. For the fun of it, we bought a purple bra here in the states, decorated it with pretty gems and donated it. Had a few laughs with our fellow cruise friends. Leave a bra and they give you a Bacaro T Shirt!!!
