My husband and I will be spending 2 1/2 weeks in Italy celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. On our actual anniversary on July 31, we will be in Sorrento, staying at Minerva Hotel. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a very special dinner that night, either in Sorrento, or close by? Although a sea view would be wonderful, it's more important that it be romantic with great food and drink! I have Rick's book, so can certainly choose one that way, but would love any recommendations you all may have. Thank you!
If you love seafood, take a look at Ristorante Bagni Delfino at the Fisherman's Marina. We loved it and it is on the water. Or the restaurant at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria for a more formal experience.
iL Buco may be what you are looking for. I'd say it is romantic. We ate outside on the steps, next to the church. Food and service is top notch. It is pricey, and like most fine restaurants, portions are tiny (afterwards I wanted pizza!!). It would definitely be a special dinner.
Caruso is another high end place that sounded nice, but we decided 1 high end place (iL Buco) was enough for this trip.
We also liked DelFino (nice view) at Marina Grande and DeFilippo (next to a lemon grove) up above the train station, but I think they are more for a non anniversary dinner.
Sorrento is great, and we did not venture outside town for any dinners, so can't help with anything "close by"...
Enjoy!!!
Definitely Delfinos!!! We were staying in Salerno and spent the better part of a day getting to Sorrento just to eat a late lunch there! ( At that time the ferry wasn't running to Sorrento, so we took the train to Naples and the dreaded Circumvesuviana to Sorrento.) We were treated with extraordinary care by Andrea, the brother of the owner! Show your Rick Steves guidebook to get a comlimentary limencello! The food is wonderful, and the atmosphere lovely.
Lori,
First of all, congratulations on your anniversary!
One restaurant I'd highly recommend in Sorrento is L'Antica Trattoria. I found the food to be fantastic (although not inexpensive) and the service was great.
