restaurant in Venice non-touristy

Where can we find a little good restaurant not far from the Square, but not a tourist trap (i.e. reasonable and good).

KT, I searched and searched trying to find out the name of the restaurant just outside our apartment that we stayed at in June. One of my pictures shows that it's located on Campiello S. Zulian, but I don't know the "crossroad". We went there because it is literally under the windows of the apartment where we stayed. I will tell you this, it was good! I know that doesn't help much, except to tell you that in Venice we didn't have a bad meal. Our second night we just walked around until we found a place that smelled good and went inside. Another great meal! My suggestion is to walk, smell, read the menu, and don't be afraid to keep walking until you find something.

Here is a restaurant that was absolutely delicious. Just beware...if you allow them to choose the menu for you, give them a price limit per person. We gave them no limit and they brought way to much food. We could not eat a lot of it and we had to pay for all of it. If you don't want to spend more than say 25 euro pp or 30 euro pp, make sure they know that's your budget for the meal. Or else just order for yourself from the menu and you'll be fine. The food was the best we had in Italy. It's called "Trattoria Tre Spiedi" and the address on their card reads Cannaregio, 5906. The phone is 39 041 27 76 555.

On two trips to Venice we dined at Locanda Montin and liked it. Great food and nice atmosphere. It is in the San Trovaso area and been in business since the 1940's. There is a map on their website-name plus dot com will pull it up for you.

We have enjoyed this spot several times when we have been Venice. It is off Campo Santa Maria Formosa in Castello, so not too far from Piazza San Marco. http://www.osteriamascaron.it/eng/storia.html Unfortunately, it has been a four years since we have been back to Venice.
