Restaurant closures

I'll be traveling in the Tuscany region of Italy during early October. I have been told that many of the restaurants close in Tuscany during October. Does anyone know if this is true?

Hi, Bonnie...

Nope, not true. Most restaurants in Toscana are indeed open in October.

Dunno who told ya they were closed. Odd. The only month I'd expect to see an inordinate amount of closures might be August as this is traditionally a vacation month for Italians. Even then, you will find most restaurants open.

Try the cinghiale and the bistecca Fiorentina while in the area. Enjoy!

I traveled to some areas of Tuscany last year in Oct-Nov and nothing was closed.
Maybe the person who told you meant August. An Italian lady told me that some businesses close in August for vacation.

August is certainly a common month for restaurants in Rome, maybe Florence, to be closed, but most tourist destinations will still be in full force. Same with September and October, though as Winter drags on, some places in the most popular tourist destinations, will certainly close up for a few weeks. I would expect December, January and February to be the most likely time to see closures.
