I am wondering if anyone has an app or site that you like to use for choosing restaurants in Italy? I don't quite trust the Tripadvisor reviews these days and am looking for reliable recommendations, please.
TripAdvisor is what most Europeans use, so it will be the app of choice.
Italians also use www.gamberosso.it, www.thefork.it, and www.ilmangione.it, however I'm not sure if they have it in English or if they are only Italian sites (the Fork is part of Tripadvisor, so it's probably with similar reviews).
I've always used the Slow Food app, Osterie d'Italia. They used to make a print guide, so I cannot attest to the latest version.
Thanks for the tips. Valedelphia, is Osteria d'Italia in English?
I could have sworn the version of the app I had years ago was in English, but the current iteration is in Italian.
Since you are searching for a fairly small area, I would search on the Gambero Rosso website (free) or Slow Food app (not free) and then use Google Translate to get details.
We’re going to Stresa in October and I googled Stresa Michelin bib gourmand restaurants and 3 popped up, possibly not starred or ‘gourmand’ but they looked good and prices not outrageous.
I've always been lucky with Il Mangione website.
It's in Italian only (which is probably better, since it relies on Italians' reviews), but a name is a name. Here is the list for Stresa and surrounding towns by reviewers' ranking:
