I'm looking to book four nights at Residence La Tavolozza in Positano in September. This hotel is highly recommended by RS and Tripadvisor. The owners have asked me to send one night deposit by mail. I've never done this before. Please share your experience with sending a check (money order? certified check?) to Italy (by USPS, FedEx?). Thank you.

Several years ago we sent an international bank draft to London via regular mail. And it was fine.

I stayed there in 2006 and they asked for the same. I sent a regular personal check in US $. When it came to checking out they showed me the bank receipt for how many Euros my check was converted to and I paid the balance in cash in Euros. That is one thing to keep in mind, no credit cards. I don't know if they've changed it since then. Otherwise the stay was great. I think we were in room 6 with a big terrace and a private bath.
