If you have a eurorail pass do you have to pay an additional reservation fee? Do most trains in Italy require a reservation?
Lucy, only the Regionale (R) and intercity (IC) trains do not require a reservation. These are the local trains. The higher-speed trains all require reservations. Most trains running between the most popular cities (Naples, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Milan and east to Venice) are high-speeds and will require reservations. You will pay about 5Euro for the ICPlus train and 15E-20E for the Eurostar-class trains. If you do not yet have a railpass for Italy, you don't need one. Point-to-point fares are less expensive. Often a lot less expensive depending on where you are traveling.
