I am trying to book a reservation for parking at La Spezia Centrale. The website is asking for my social security number. I am nervous to enter that into the form, but the website will not let me go any further with the reservation unless I supply the number. Is there another way to book parking at the this garage? Maybe go through a travel agency instead of booking directly myself? I have posted this question on another travel forum and someone (not from the US) said that no one cares about a social security number outside the US. Still worried though. Thank you!

There is no way that an Italian website would want your American SSN.
And as someone who has worked for many years to investigate Medicare fraud, you should not release your SSN too lightly. That information may lead to identity theft and cause you a lot of trouble.
I'm willing to bet that the Italian website is probably requesting the Codice Fiscale, or tax code, which is something that anybody can get because it is a combination of letters and numbers based on your name, birthday and gender.
Just generate your own codice fiscale using the website below and enter that code generated from the website below in the Parking lot website. Do not release your American SSN.
If you have a middle name enter it in the first name field.
For country of birth enter the Italian spelling (I.e. STATI UNITI if you were born in America)
