Reserving hotel in Venice

Planning a Rick Steves My Way tour for fall of 2022 which begins in Venice. If we want to
reserve the same hotel for one night before the tour how difficult will it be if we find out which hotel it will be only one month before the tour? My concern is that there will be a kazillion people trying to book hotels in Venice especially if covid lets up next year. Normally, we would be booking hotels months ahead of time. We wouldn't want to have to book a different hotel for one night and have to pack up and move.

Talk to the RS office and explain what you want to do. They are used to this request. I did it when I took Rome in 7 days and they let me know the hotel well in advance.

As soon as you are okayed on the tour, RS will give you the contact information for the hotel. The information comes with the email that tells you that you are confirmed on the tour.

Trying to find out ahead of time might not work; if you don't know which tour you'll be on, they may not be able to tell you which hotel they will be using. They use several hotels in Venice.

Email the hotel to let them know you’re on the RS tour and you want to reserve the same room for X amount of nights pre-tour (dates). I did that for the Chartres hotel for the South of France tour that starts Sept 11. They asked for my credit card number to reserve the room but did not charge the card.

First and last hotel info is given to you when you are confirmed, for this very reason. And the hotels know to expect requests for extra nights, from their working relationship with RSE. But you need to contact the hotels directly by email or phone in order to ask them, as they may block out rooms from third party or their own booking sites for this purpose.

Its the hotels in the middle that you wont know until a month before the trip.

My question has more to do with the availability of hotel rooms with such a short lead time during perhaps an extremely frantic booking season. But I could certainly try to find out further ahead from the RS office if they know the tour hotel for that date. We have 2 or 3 rooms to book for our group traveling together which makes it even more if-y.

Elaine, have you already signed up and been confirmed for a specific tour? Or maybe you're on a waitlist?

If confirmed, then you should have already received that hotel info. It should be in the tour documents folder that is created for you when you any of you signed up and paid your deposit, accessible through the My Account link at top right this page. If you didn't, call the RSE tour office and they can tell you. If you're not confirmed for a specific date, then its not helpful to know.
