Reserving Accademia & Uffizi tickets

Hi all,

I want to book tickets for the Uffizi and Accademia to avoid the queues, but here's my problem.

The window of time for collecting tickets are very small just 15 minutes. I won't be staying in Florence, but will be in La Spezia and taking a train into Florence in the morning. What if we miss our train, there's a strike etc and for some reason we don't get to the ticket booth in that time slot we picked. Will they still hold our ticket? Or do we lose it? It's a lot of money to lose and also the frustration of having to queue up after all! Is there any other way of beating the queues?

Also, how much time do you think I shhould allocate to do one museum before booking the 'window of time' for the next?

I.e. If we go to the Accademia in the morning, say 9am (and mainly want to see "David' like everyone else. What time should I book the Uffizi for?

Any suggestions welcome.

I am not sure if things have changed, but when we booked our tickets to the Uffizi, we had a 10 am time. We were out earlier that morning and went to the door at 9 am and showed them our pre-booked tickets. They ushered us in without even noting our 10 am time.

Has anyone else gone at a different time window than the pre-booked time ?

I can't say that we've heard feedback from many people who missed their museum reservation time. If you pre-paid €10 for a ticket, I would not expect that ticket to be dead, but the €4 entry reservation would be. Staff at the reservation window would have to tell you what time to come back or whether you just get into the regular line and wait. The Firenze Card at €72 per person is more expensive but also lets you skip the ticket lines.

We reserved without paying and then arrived for our slot and were admitted and paid -- if we had not showed, we would have lost the reservation fee is all. I'd make the reservation late enough that you can make it. when we went they had a list and we had to show our number in our time slot to be admitted.
