Reserved tickets for Accadamia-Florence

I called the museum directly and reserved tickets for Galleria Accadamia. The agent told me I pay for my tickets at the museum when I go in May. Should I just "bite the bullet" and purchase tickets from an online site to have the tickets in hand? I did the same for Uffizi. Thanks for any input.

I've followed Rick's advice twice and had no problem whatsoever: call the number lsited, get a confirmation code, pay for the tickets (with a small surcharge). Easy enough. I've never had a problem with "nothing in hand from a phoned reservation" as long as I brought along my confirmation number.

I was in Florence in October and made my reservations there the day before visiting the two museums. Even in October, the line was way too long. I was glad I had reserved. I didn't get reservations for the Coliseum, but arrived early and had no trouble (again in October).

I took Rick's advise seriously about making reservations for some of Italy's most populars sites. My husband and I are visiting Rome, Assisi, Florence and Siena in June 2008. We used tickitaly.com to reserve dates and times for five sites: Borghese Gallery, Colosseum, Vatican, The Academia and the Uffizi. It was so easy! We received vouchers confirming the reservation (rather than nothing in hand from a phoned in reservation), the reservations are paid for (one less bit of travel funds we'll have to jam into the money belt!), and no time will be wasted standing in long lines. It also forced us to build an itinerary while keeping enough time in between for moving about at a leisurely pace.

The next test will be when we arrive to claim our reservation. I'm optimistic.

We visited Florence last October and had our hotel arrange for tickets for the Accademia and Uffizi. It was quick and easy, they just mailed us a confirmation number and we paid at the door for the Accademia.

Using on-line services all you get is a voucher. There are two lines...one for prepaids, or vouchered, or reserved, as you are, and one for those who did not plan ahead. The prepaids/vouchered/reserved are much much shorter.

I just got back from Rome and Florence yesterday. I used an online site to reserve the tickets, received a voucher via e-mail, and paid for my tickets upon arriving at the museum. It was super easy and saved a ton of time--I wouldn't worry about not having the tickets in hand. A voucher will get you through the faster door just as easily, especially since you already have the spots reserved!

What online service did you use and was there a fee to use this service? How much?

You should have been given an entrance time and a reservation # when you called. You arrive at 15 min before your entrance time give them the # and pay.
Good luck!!

No, don't pay the extra fees the booking services charge as you still won't have actual tickets. Your confirmation number the museum reservation office gave you is all you need. Plus, if you don't pay in advance and you decide to skip a museum you are not out any money.
