reserve tickets for Vatican city and other Colosseum, Roman Forum

We are going to Italy in April 1st week and wondering where to reserve tickets Vatican city and other Colosseum, Roman Forum. I searched and found that even expedia is selling tickets. Are there any less expensive way to reserve tickets?

[update]
We are staying for 2 and half days. Reaching Rome on Apr 6th and leaving on 9th morning. I don't think we can do much on 6th. We are thinking Colosseum, Roman Forum and others on Friday 7th and on Vatican on Saturday (8th)

Thanks

Are you looking for just entrance tickets, or tours ? One one trip we bought a Roma Pass at Termini and used it for entrance to Borghese (had made reservations by phone from home) and Colosseum/Forum, had pre-booked Vatican Museum tickets online using the museum's website for a Friday evening. Last spring we just winged it, got Colosseum/Forum tickets at the Forum entrance (10-15 minute line), saw the Forum, went back the next day to the Colosseum shorter line for people who already had tickets. Haven't done commercial tours.

Only use the official websites. Decide whether you want the Roma Pass or not. If you use it for the Colosseum/Forum, then you don't have to reserve in advance. The Borghese requires reservations - make them well in advance as they sell out. If you use the Roma Pass for the Borghese, then you have to make a reservation by phone. You can email your hotel with your date and time and ask them to reserve for you.

Vatican Museum lines are usually long. You can reserve tickets - use the official website - even just a couple days in advance. Or take a tour (book in advance).

Use the official sites to book entry tickets or tours. This will be the best price for both.

If these are the only sites you plan to visit while in Rome then a romapass will not be of value to you. Read all the information on their website before buying it and do the math to see if it will save you any money.

You don't say how long you will be in Rome but if the Vatican and Colosseum/Forum are the only attractions on your list, then don't buy the Roma Pass; it doesn't cover the Vatican. And don't use a 3rd party for your tickets: as Chani said, buy them from the OFFICIAL websites.

There is no single ticket for the Vatican, and only so many areas tourists are allowed to access:

Vatican Museums/Sistine: ticket or guided tour/ticket
St Peter's: free
Gardens: mandatory guided tour/fee
Necropolis: mandatory guided tour/fee
Scavi: mandatory tour/fee (reserved on a different website and limited slots)

You may purchase all but the scavi tour here:

http://www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/visita-i-musei/scegli-la-visita/visitatori-singoli.html

Most tourists only visit the museums and the basilica, and tours are available on the Vatican website for both. Unless one is a serious museum lover, I often recommend the 3-hour combo tour of the museums/Sistine/Basilica as it covers just the highlights of a vast collection, and is an efficient way to access St. Peter's directly without dealing with its security line, as you would if entering the church from the outside. This tour is also economically priced.

Entry tickets for the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine should be purchased here:

http://www.coopculture.it/en/the-colosseum.cfm

General-entry adult tickets will cost you 14 euro (12 euro + 2 euro reservation fee) and cover entry to all 3 sites. As you'll see on the website, tours and rental audioguides are also available to book/purchase.

Palatine and Forum are considered one attraction and must be visited together as the sites are adjoining; you pass from one into the other inside the secured area.

(Sorry for the redundancy, Donna; was still typing as you were posting)
