We will be in Venice for 3 days towards the end of May, on a weekend. I have seen a website where you can prepay for a parking space at Piazzale Roma Car Park, and heard that parking may fill up. Is this true? Is it advisable to get a prepaid spot? And I know it's a bad idea to drive to Venice, but it is actually cheaper and easier for us than re-booking a car, and we need it before and after Venice. Thanks!
Well I reserved and paid for parking before my arrival into Venice on one occasion...before I knew what a headache a car in Venice would be. Too many road tolls, parking fees, high petrol, theft, accidents - just too many headaches. Especially when the train drops you right on Venice Island bypassing all of the maddening traffic.
There are other options (Tronchetto, Mestre) if the Piazzale Roma lot is full. I'm sure I parked at Tronchetto without a reservation in the past, when I had a long-term car lease. But once you're reserved your hotel, you might as well reserve the parking, too, to help yourself feel more organized.
Thank you!
Do you really need one? You said toward the end of your trip. Unless you are going to the Dolomites or the lakes afterwards, you probably won't need it anymore.
The charge is 25-30 euro a day for parking (plus your rental cost, just to keep it parked for 3 days).
The parking in Mestre is cheaper, if you want to consider staying in Mestre. There are several hotels at the Mestre station.
