Reservations to top of Duomo in Florence and Florence suggestions for BOE trip.

Hello fellow travelers,
We are headed to Florence on a 21 day BOE trip in two weeks. (so excited!) It looks to me like one needs a reservation to climb to the top and that it is not included on our tour. It is not clear to me how to book this "free" reservation. The museum website is confusing and not clear how one can just reserve a time to climb the dome and not have to pay for the whole museum pass. Does anyone have any tips for this? Or has anyone done this trip before and have any suggestions of what else we may do with our free morning on the 2nd day there? We will already be visiting the Academia and Uffizi Galleries as well as a walking tour. I think that we would prefer not to see additional galleries with such short time there. (2 nights and 1.5 days)

It is my understanding that you cannot reserve for the Duomo Dome until you get to Florence. I know that is the case with the Firenze card. You might think of some alternatives for similar views. There is the Duomo bell tower or the Palazzo Vecchio tower that tend to get fewer people. In addition to shorter lines for those two, you would get the Duomo dome in your photo.
