We are traveling to France and Italy October 8 through October 21st. I made hotel reservations for Paris, Rome and Venice. Our tentative plans for the other places are Florence for one night (10/13), Cinque Terra (10/14-10/16 or 10/17) and Tuscany(leaning toward Volturra) and then heading to Rome. We are traveling by train/bus while in Italy. Do I need reservations for Florence, Cinque Terra or Volturra? I just need a clean safe place to sleep. Thanks.

You should be fine but will need to be flexible. The TI will have a list of available hotels and can make recommendations. You might research each location and have three or four hotels in mind and then call the day before.
