Reservations needed for museums in Florence?

I know that some museums must be pre-booked, especially in high season. (For example, I wouldn't dream of just showing up to the Borghese in Rome.) Is this true for the Uffizi & the Accademia Gallery? Any recommendations for online venues? Thanks!

If you're going in high season, you will want a reservation for the Uffizi and Accademia for sure.

Use the search box in the upper right corner to find out how to do it, or ask your hotel.

check with your hotel, ours did the reservations for us and we ended up skipping the line.

Thanks, but we are staying in a hostel. So, I'll need to do the arrangements myself.

Are reservations needed if we will be visiting either on Dec 30 or Jan 2nd? I've heard the sights are much less crowded then so would it be okay to just wing it?

Ask your hostel. They are probably used to doing it for their guests - ala Rick Steves' suggestion. We are staying at Casa Rabatti and they did the reservations for us with our credit card number. Have fun!

I would strongly encourage you to get reservations for the Uffizi and the Accademia. I was just there and the lines were awful. We didn't need reservations for the Bargello, Duomo Museum or the Medici Chapel. The Duomo Museum is a gem, by the way. Good size, modern, elevators to take you up and down and largely overlooked by tourists.

We did reservations for most all of the sites we visited in Rome, Florence and Venice and I'll bet we didn't spend a total of an hour waiting to get in to all of them combined.

Thanks for everyone's replies. We searched several websites for available Uffizi tickets & all the websites listed our dates as "sold out". BUT, we called directly and were able to obtain reservations for both the Uffizi & the Accademia in one fell swoop.

So, I've learned a lesson here & hope to pass this knowledge along. Not only did we actually get spots when it seemed evident that it was sold out, but we saved money by booking directly. (+39-055-294-883)

I hope all goes well when we check in!
