Could someone tell me what I should do to get reservations at the Uffizi and Accademia for January 2nd? We will be staying outside of Florence at a B&B without on-site manager. Is calling the museums the best way at this point? And since we are staying about an hour away from Florence, where can we park outside of town? Thanks so much.

I would make reservations. The museums will be closed on January 1, which usually means the next day they are open will be more crowded. Call and make a reservation. You don't pay in advance. On January 2 if there is no line don't claim your reservation and pay like at the window without the reservation fee.
