We are going on the Heart of Italy in 9 Days Tour. We will arrive a day before the tour. Any recommendations? When will travel to Lucca, we will have time to explore on our own. I hear the San Giovanni Church is fabulous, but requires a reservation. Will we have time to do this? and bike around the city? On the final day of the tour, we are going to the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Should I book the Borghese Galleria for the afternoon or do you think we'll need the day to explore?

Trying to see the Vatican and the Galleria Borghese in one day is too much. Your brain will be on overload.

The Borghese is fantastic, maybe even more so than the Vatican which is sensory overload. We were just there two weeks ago. But, it will all overwhelm you to say the least. The Borghese is done strictly with reservations, and there aren't many. Starting at 9AM they let a set number in, give you almost 2 hours then chase everyone out for the next group. Kind of a good idea. Definitely both are worth visiting, if you can possible do it.
