Reservations for the Vatican/Sistine Chapel

My husband and I are flying into Rome and staying at at a great hotel there. My question is, we heard from a friend to go up to the hotel's concierge and ask for reservations to be made to get into the vatican/sistine chapel (?) She said that way we wouldn't have to stay in those long lines. Can you help me on this? I would appreciate it! From Singerlizz

Any reason you'd rather not do it yourself online before you get there?

Thanks Nigel. Can you suggest where online I can do this? Is there a good website that I can make reservations from? I am new at this so any good advice from experience would do and thank you.

Thank you very much, Bryan. We will be in Rome tomorrow since we are leaving from Berlin, so I hope it will be easy to make the reservations. Appreciate you taking the time to send me a website.

Be sure to make the reservations as soon as you can. Safe travels!

My husband should be here at the hotel (in Berlin) soon because he wants to look at the website. It's very impressive and I've bookmarked it! I told him to "hurry" because I want to book it today because we will be in Rome tomorrow in the afternoon!
I watched the academy award winning movie "Roman Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and saw all that it entailed about Rome. The movie was filmed there. I would like to visit the "Mouth of Truth" I hope it's still there! Thanks for your info, Bryan and the safe travels! God helps us through!

The mouth of truth is still there. It's near the colosseum in the Santa Maria in Cosmedin church. Donna

The Mouth of Truth is NW of Circo Massimo, near the river, at the foot of the Aventine, about a 20-25 minute walk from the Colosseum. Easy to combine with a trip to Trastevere. Be aware, the site is behind a fence to prevent harm. I think you can still do the hand-in-the-mouth but there is often a line....

When I arrived in Rome last week, I realized I forgot to make the online reservation at the Vatican Museum. I was able to do it on the iphone, and forwarded the email verification to my hotel's email which they printed for me. As it turned out, I probably did not even need the reservation because when I showed up at Noon, there was almost no line.
The lines are longest from about 9-11, but it moves fast. Bear in mind, however, that on the days there is a Wednesday morning Papal audience, the line at the museum will be worse in the afternoon.

FYI, there are no papal Wednesday audiences during the month of July; this coming week will be the final one until August.
