My adult children and I have 3 days in Rome in Oct. We arrive on Sat and are hoping to visit the Borghese Gallery Mon or Tues morn. Are we ok waiting til we arrive in Rome to make a reseration for the gallery?
The Gallery is closed on Mondays. This gives you ONE day, Tuesday. You really really should make reservations ahead of time or you will risk being, ah, well totally out of luck. We got our tickets from www.rome-museum.com (this is not an endorsement just where we got our tickets ok). Be advised you MUST be there at the appointed time or to bad, so sad. Take a cab. Make sure you specify that you want to go to the Museo e Galleria Borghese entrance. Get the hotel to order your cab to avoid misunderstandings and try for a two hour window (that's all you are allowed) that is outside of morning or evening rush hour (much humor here).
Reservations at the Borghese Gallery are mandatory, even if you have the RomaPass. Entrance is limited to set times. The official booking site is www.Ticketeria.it - the lowest price without agency fees tacked on. Or ask your hotel to reserve for you.
Kathy - try this link for info on how to make the reservations at the Galleria Borghese... and for policies, pictures, and maps. And yes, get a reservation as suggested!
Just ask your hotel to make a reservation for you. Email them the day and time slot you want, and they'll email you back a confirmation.
As the others have said, reservations aren't optional for the Borghese. They only let in a very limited number of people every 2 hours and when your 2 hours is up, you have to leave (they make announcements about 15 minutes before the end of the time period).
And in early October it will likely be crowded and the slots will fill up. So definitely get the reservation a few weeks in advance, not a few days.
