reservations for Accademia & Uffizi

My friend & I have both been trying to make phone reservations (from the USA) at the Accademia & Uffizi in Florence. We call the number in RSteves guide books 055-294-883 & get a recorded announcement in English with several options to choose. However, we cannot get a live person to book our reservations. My hotel does not book reservations. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to do this?

Carolyn,
As you live in Edmonds, you might try either calling or better still pop into the Rick Steve's office. We just got back from their 17 days in Italy tour, which of course these museums visits are all prearranged, but I would think the staff at the office can surely help you with getting reservations.

Easiest, simpliest way is to ask your hotel to make the reservation. They all do it,

Carolyn,

I asked the hotel where we stayed in Florence to make reservations at both galleries. No problems. The reserved tickets are 3 euro extra for each ticket. You pick up the tickets at the galleries.

Email your hotel, and ask if they can help. If so, they will email reservation numbers. Print that email and take it with you.

You will avoid long lines with reserved tickets.

A previous entry on this helpline indicated that she finally got through to the number you were dialing at about 10:45 EST. The complete number is: 001-39-055-294-883. My hotel made the reservation for me but not all of them are willing to do it. Good Luck!

Order your tickets (reservations) on line. http://www.tickitaly.com/xcart/home.php

To reserve tickets with tickitaly.com, just fill out the booking form, give us a first - and sometimes second - preference for date and time (dates are in European DD/MM/YYYY format), supply us with credit card details, and we'll do the rest. Once we have confirmed availability we'll then point you to our secure page, where you can print out your entry voucher. Print it out, take it with you to the venue and present it at the ticket desk ... they will swap it for your entry ticket. As simple as that! You will be charged absolutely nothing until we have confirmed your reservation.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I finally got through calling the number in RS guide. I realized that when I first tried there was something wrong with the phone reservation line in that it did not give me enough options to choose to speak with someone to make my reservation. They corrected the problem & all is fine. I do need to say however, that not all hotels offer to help book tickets for the Uffizi. I emailed my hotel about this several times & never got a reply, which I take as a "no". Changing hotels at the last minute, as someone suggested, is not always an option.

If the hotel is small and does not have a concierge, it can be tough for them to routinely take care of special requests from a lot of customers. But it is frustrating, isn't it?
