I know its recommended to get reservations for the Accademia to avoid long lines but is that nessesary year round or just in the busy season? I'm going to be in Florence in 2 weeks. Also are the online websites legitmate for making reservations or am I better off to call? My problem is knowing exactly what time to make them for!
You could ask your hotel to make the reservation for you. Another option is to get the Florence card, which will get you into several sights without reservations.
We will be in Florence later this spring, and just last night I emailed our hotel asking if they could make a reservation for us at the Uffuzi Gallery and the Accademia. When I checked my email this morning there was a message from them with a reservation number for each, along with instruction on how to pick up the tickets. Super easy!
Nancy - did you have to specify a specific entrance time or just the day?
Thanks!
I just specified the date, and they arranged the Uffizi in the morning at 9:00 and the Accademia for 3:00 that afternoon. That is our dedicated "museum day", so I felt good with that schedule, and should allow for a leisurly lunch and not having to be rushed at either museum.
Going late afternoon is better, there are few crowds then. Usually you can almost walk right in an hour before closing. But the advice to have your hotel do it is the best and least hassle.
Nancy,
Would you mind telling how much you were charged by your hotel for making the reservations? I'm confused at the prices that I've seen. One site has each museum at 12 Euros; another has an online ticket purchase of 22 Euros each.
The hotel won't charge you for making the reservation. They give you a confirmation number and you pay for the ticket yourself at the museum. The tickets are standard fee.
