I may have to reschedule our Italy trip again. We were to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with a trip in July 2020, Covid cancel that. We are now to go this April but we may need to reschedule again because of my husbands work. We are suppose to go for a month visiting Venice
, Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terra, Orvieto, and Montepluciano. I may reschedule for September or October. Which month would have better weather? Would September still be hot or would October be better.
Thanks
It kind of depends on your heat tolerance. Mine is zero, lol so I’d go late Sept, early Oct and I’d want lodging with AC.
I’ve been in mid Oct and caught a bit of rain but I prefer that to heat.
Late September, early October. Many places turn off their AC’s in October, if it’s a warm period, you might get hit in your room. It’s a consideration. I’d definitely check with the hotel.
We typically visit from mid-September through mid-October. Temps are generally pretty good. Cool mornings, warm afternoons. We will be in Venice/Florence/Bologna/Varenna during that month.
3 years ago we started north in Padua and Venice the last 10 days of September and in the first 2 weeks of October worked our way farther south through Florence, Tuscany and ended in Rome. It was absolutely beautiful weather for us.....warm sunny 65-78's and very little rain. I needed to find sunscreen because the sun was plentiful especially in Ostia Antica. I was glad we brought repellent with us because the mosquitoes were fierce in Padua while we waited outdoors in the twilight for our Scrovegni Chapel double "Under the Stars" visits (40 minutes). There were plenty of mosquitoes in Venice as well but fewer as we progressed south. I noticed that tomatoes seemed tastier to me in the north and became less so as we continued. I think that's the time period I would choose again.
I need to be home the second weekend in October so I want to go to Italy before or after. I have booked apartments through booking.com. Do apartments following the same regulations about AC as hotels? Do the trails along the Cinque Terra coast close for the season? I live along the coast in Southern California so I am spoiled with my 70 degree weather.
