Requirements for coming home from Italy.

What are the requirements for getting home from Italy.

We will hopefully be going this spring taking a transatlantic cruise leaving NY on April 24, landing in Rome May 9. Then we intend to be in Italy flying home from Rome June2.

What are the requirements for getting home?

Thank you in advance.

Where will we be able to get the test prior to leaving? Are there site or clinics close by or maybe at the airport?

Just a negative antigen test, no more than 1 day before departure. You can get one at most pharmacies in Rome as a "walk-in", costs ~25 euro. results in 20 minutes to an hour or so. At least that is for the moment, subject to change.

Nobody knows what the requirements will be in June but I suspect they will be similar to current requirements. In October we walked up to a pharmacy in Trastevere and paid €30 for two tests with results in about 15 minutes. The paperwork added another 15 minutes or so. At that time, you needed a negative test within 48 hours of departure and we went to the pharmacy to see if we needed an appointment for the day before we left but since there was no wait and we were within 48 hours, we went ahead and got the test. Since then Italy tightened up requirements on the unvaccinated which resulted in increased demand for tests among Italians. I don’t know how hard it is to get a test currently but I wouldn’t wait until the last minute to make arrangements. Planning on going to the airport for testing without knowing how long you would have to wait and with little time to figure out what to do if you test positive would make me nervous.
