We are going on a tour to Sicily with Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) and are leaving in 9 days. The OAT information sheet states "you MAY be required to take a rapid test at the Palermo airport". Included is info on how to register to speed up process and reduce wait time. My question is for anyone who has arrived at the Palermo airport recently, were you required to take the rapid test upon entry?
We are leaving for Palermo April 20. My understanding is that if you are vaccinated with booster within the last 6 months you do not need to test upon arrival.
That is what I thought too, but come to find out different areas within italy can add additional requirements. I'm hoping that someone who was recently at the Palermo airport could confirm if the rapid test requirement is still happening

Did you see that somewhere in writing or told that by someone in the know?
I flew into Palermo airport today. There was no requirement for a rapid test upon arrival. Everyone just walked out the exit. I flew from Rome to Palermo and my friend flew Munich to Palermo with the same results.
Per my AA booking, the preregistration form for Sicily is mandatory. I am going to fill out a few days before we leave for Sicily and submit it and print it. If they pull us aside in Palermo and test us, so be it. It sure beats standing at the checkin counter at the airport here in the US and being denied boarding. For all I know, we may also just breeze through the Palermo airport without a fuss.
I believe that "we may test" language has been around for some time. It allows the authorities to require a test if they feel there is a need--perhaps something like a new, scary variant taking hold at the point of origin of the flight. I haven't seen any reports that such tests are actually being conducted.
Thank you Donna, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear!
