I am considering Hotel Sonya as opposed to Hotel Aberdeen or Hotel Lancelot in Rome. Has anyone stayed at Hotel Sonya and what has been your experience? Thanks ever so much!

Ruth, we stayed at Hotel Sonya on a Rick Steves' group tour several years ago. We found it to be a very nice hotel, exceptionally helpful front desk staff, nice breakfast room, very clean modern rooms. The building itself seems to also have some condos it it, but you might not even notice, except the chance of noticing a more permanent resident coming and going. Has a lovely staircase and a really neat (beautiful) old elevator. Location was good, short walk to the Metro. We encountered no noise issues. Seemed to be a decent part of town, too......we felt safe coming and going. Not familiar with the other hotels you are considering, so I can't make a comparison. I'd suggest checking www.tripadvisor.com if you are not familiar with it. Often folks post their own photos of the hotel, rooms, area.
Thank you very much, Margaret!

Here is my tripadvisor listing of hotel sonya. I liked it. I wouldn't return to rome but if I had to, I would stay there again. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d232838-r90232096-Hotel_Sonya-Rome_Lazio.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT
Sonya is our hotel of choice when in Rome because it a little closer to Termini and wife thinks the lattes are better. Have used the Aberdeen and it is equal to Sonya. When we want one night passing through Rome we use the Contrilla. Adequate and convenient.
