Renting and returning a car on a Saturday or Sunday

How can you rent/return a rental car on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday? I know many/most car rental agencies are closed Saturday afternoon, Sunday, and open again on Monday. I want to pick up on a Sunday from either LaSpezia or Pisa and return it to either Chiusi or Orvieto on a Saturday or Sunday.
Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you.

I can’t speak to the area you’re asking about. But I can tell you how I handled the same problem renting Saturday, returning Sunday. Rent a car at the airport and return it to a airport. We rented from AutoEurope/Hertz at Naples Airport to drive to Calabria on Saturday. We drove back to NAP the next day to return the car then took the train to Venice. This was the only way I could get our timing to work out.

You might check with www.Gemut.com. They offer very personalized service and can help you figure out your options. In general I’d say you have to go with airport locations (Pisa has an airport) or adjust your plans, but maybe Gemut can help

On Sunday you would most likely have to pick up a car at the Pisa airport. The Hertz office in Orvieto closes at 1 on Saturday. Regarding drop offs, some rental companies allow for after hours returns. I returned my Europcar rental in Verona by dropping at a parking lot that was about a 10 minute walk from their office.

Well if you pick it up at the airport in Pisa any day should work but it will be the drop that might be an issue. If you use AutoEurope and you plug in your dates and it comes back with "nothing is available" usually it's because the office you selected isn't open at the times you want. I'd play around with the dates and time and offices to see what comes up. Now in Italy I always go for the no deductible and many of the non-airport location will not have that option. AutoEurope is based in the US so if you are in the US or Canada you could call them. They are easy to work with.

Saturday is ok in the morning.
Pisa airport is always open (till midnight).
If your final destination is Rome, you might have to return at the Termini station, which is one of the locations open on Sunday, besides the airport. Traffic in Rome is not bad on Sunday, provided it’s not late afternoon or evening when Romans return from their weekend getaway.

I'm dropping a car in Garmisch on a Sunday morning before the office opens. I always rent from gemut.com and have cleared with them that this will not be a problem. Assuming there will be a drop box for keys. Even if there's not, in uber honest Germany, I'm not too concerned.
