4 of us will be in need of a rental car for 4 days during our upcoming trip to Italy. The only leg of our trip that requires a car is when we stay at an agritourismo in Castellina in Chianti. We'd like to pick-up and drop off in Florence and would prefer an automatic if possible. Does anyone have any experience advice they would share on this?

Be prepared to pay more. Automatics tend to cost more then stick shifts in Europe. And be sure to shop around, as rental companies can vary greatly in cost.
But the best option would be to NOT rent the car in Florence, but some other, easier place to get in and out of, like Poggibonsi, which is easily accessed by rail and is more centrally located to where you plan to be anyway. We have done this and it makes the process much easier.
Do you happen to remember where you rented the car in Poggibonsi?
