Renting an appartment in Venice in March

2 questions: 1-Anyone have a recommendation for an appartment rental company/person in Venice? We want to spend a week there with friends early next spring. 2-Anyone been to Venice in late March? I know it'll be cool but it doesn't look like it should be exceptionally rainy. Would you recommend this time of year?

Just posted this in response to a similar question about November: You can use flickr.com to run an advanced search for photos taken in Venice during November of 2010 (or any time period for that matter), if you want to actually see what was going on. Plus there's the FAQ on this site that links you to a weather site that will show you the average weather for any location and any two-week date range, based on the last 10 years of data. That helps even out any fluke weather.

I rented an apartment in Venicethe first full week in April '10. I used www.trulyvenice.com The apartment I rented was just under the famous clock tower right there in the piazza. I do not remember the exact name of the apartment but I am sure that if you inquired about "Sistiere di San Marco 275, Venice" the representative will be able to guide you to the site with the description and photos The apartment was 3 floors. 2 bedrooms and a bath on one floor, the next floor was the kitchen, small dining room/den with another full bath and bedroom with a fold out couch and the 3 rd floor had another sitting area and a twin bed and the best part was the roof top terrace that you walked out onto from this loft bedroom. The weather was perfect and almost no crowds. I would highy recommend going this time of the year. good luck and enjoy!!

It's easy to forget that the weather varies from one year to the next. Good weather one year doesn't mean good weather another year. That's what's great about the FAQ site - it averages ten years together.

Joy - We have used www.veniceapartments.org in the past with good results. www.viewsonvenice.com also gets good reviews. We have stayed in Venice several times around the second or third week in March. the weather has generally been nice, ranging from nice and sunny in the 60's to rainy and 40s most of the day. As with most places the rains hasn't lasted every single day of the trip. Plan on layering and bring a rainproof shell as a good protection against rain and in case it gets windy. Obviously cooler in the evening and night.

We are staying in this apartment for three months the later part of this year - http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p333948 I viewed the apartment last December and it's beautiful. Owners: he is italian; she is american who is a friend of a friend. They take credit card for the deposit. We also rented from Luxrest Venice twice (2008 & 2009) - good people to deal with. Also takes credit card for deposit. http://www.luxrest-venice.com/en/venice_apartments/holiday_rental_apartments We rented from Venice Rentals in 2003 and 2006 but find them to be a lot more expensive. Good luck on your seach.

Regarding apartment rentals: in my two trips to Venice, I used vrbo.com. Nice selection and reliability a plus.

We were in Venice mid April and had fabulous weather. We rented our 2 bedroom apartment through Home Away Holiday rentals. It was in the Cannaregio neighbourhood.
A large Billa grocery store was close by and very reasonably priced. Everything is walkable in Venice so take that into consideration when you are booking. Areas near St Mark's square are much more expensive.

Thanks to everyone who responded! I'm pleased to hear people had positive experiences with so many different companies and even vrbo. I should have said in my original post that we have been to Venice before but more for siteseeing than just "being". Completely agree with not needing to be in San Marco. I was actually thinking we'd avoid it due to it tending to be one of the lower lying areas. A little extra insurance against getting trapped in our appartment due to acqua alta. Thanks everyone!

Have not been to Venice in March, but absolutely love the "The Red House" Apt in Venice, just stayed there with my husband and another couple. Marco Malafante, the owner, has several apts in Venice and is wonderful. His apts are exactly as photograped, his suggestions for meals are right-on, and he will do anhything to make your trip the best!
