Hello. We are going to Rome for 7 nights in July and I am looking into renting an apartment.
We are two adults with our two teenaged children.
I thought to stay in the Trevi Fountain, or Spanish Steps areas, but I understand that both are under restoration. (The church at the top of the steps; the fountain is under scaffolding and has no water.) Do you think this makes a difference in terms of staying in the area?
My other thought is to stay around the Piazza Navona, although it does not seem like there are as many apartments.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks,
Eileen
Eileen I think the Piazza Navona/Panthoen area is ideal, but also encourage you to look at Prati, near the Vatican. Specify these areas when you look at www.vrbo.com. Should be many options, but move on it as lots of people are planning their summers in Rome right now.
Prati is well-connected by metro, bus and tram to everything and very walkable to Piazza Navona area.
What site are you checking? There are scads of apartments in the Navona/Pantheon area, which I find much more interesting than Prati, fwiw. In addition to vrbo.com, try airbnb.com.
Thank you for your prompt replies! So far, I've checked TripAdvisor, and CrossPollinate (recommended in Rick Steve's guidebook), and a RentalinRome.com, which is recommended in Frommers. I'm a bit wary of that last one however, because they do not have many guest reviews.
Not sure of your exact dates, but this place has some July availability. If yours is open, grab it right now. This apartment was great for us last summer, super nice, very centrally located -we walked everywhere! And literally around the corner from Campo di Fiori.
Really awesome place!!!
Kim
Thanks, Kim. It seems to be available for our dates, so I sent an inquiry. It looks perfect.
I'll let you know if it works out!

Hi Eileen,
I use Airbnb for 4 years and we rented our apartment all around Europe, last year we had apartments in Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo, Nice , Genoa , Venice, Rome and lake Como.
They have thousand of apartments, from less then $50 per night ( we are family with 2 teens) so its much cheaper then any hotel, plus you have washer and dryer, kitchen and etc...
I recommend you to check Airbnb, you will not be disappointed!
PS for this summer I already rented apartments in Vienna and Rome (again!)
Have a great time in Rome!
Alexandra
Thanks, I'll look into Airbnb also.
Kim: unfortunately the apartment you recommended was already booked.
