Renting an apartment in Florence.

I am trying to find out the safest way to rent an apartment in Florence. I have been looking at VRBO and TripAdvisor but there seem to be many different opinions. While I realize opinions vary, my concern is security and not being scammed. So, is there anyway to rent securely? Thanks in advance for any help.

hi, different apartment owners always ask for different things. sometimes you have to pay 20 percent and the rest on arrival or others want that you pay in full before you get there. as long as you rent from a reputable company and the apartment has feedback you should be ok. we have used nextaway.com to book our apartment. i know there are a plethora of sites to look and it can get overwhelming but i would suggest to find an agency and tell them what you are looking for and see what they come back with.

vrbo and its UK affiliate homeaway.com (which vrbo uses for Europe) is safe. Homelidays.com is safe too.

Yes, go with an established company if you are worried about such things: the same goes for car rentals. However, having lived in Florence for several years, I have never come across, nor heard of people scammed in this way. Perhaps it has happened, but not on my radar. I think it likely that the authorities would stamp down on such behavior pretty quickly, knowing how important the tourist dollar is to the city of Florence. So don't limit yourself to one or two sites. Why not try and find yourself somewhere unique?
