I was posting questions until my fingers fell off for my trip in September and I almost needed intervention! But Rome was FANTASTIC! It is now definately one of my favorite Italian cities. You really have to stay long in order to appreciate it. ANYWAY I plan to return for 3 months in the fall of 2011. Does anyone have suggestions on where I can find apartments in the Acilia or Ostia area of Rome? I have tried Homeaway.com, VRBO.com, Homeliday.com, etc etc etc... and all the usual places, but it's really hard to find something in that area of Rome. Also, I have never stayed that long before, so are there any legal requirements when renting for such a long period? Would that be considered "sub-letting"? Any other ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi Monique, first let me say how green with envy I am! Secondly, I'm not sure what your "etc etc etc" covers but I'm headed to Rome at the end of the month and I used sleepinitaly.com for our apartment rental.
Don't be green with envy! - your turn will come!!! Hmmmm I guess that "etc etc etc" is pretty vague, huh? I guess it means that if I have tried any and every websites that pops up on Google or Bing whenever your search for any combination of the words apartment, Rome, Acilia, Ostia, rental, short-term, long-term, temporary, villa, etc.. (there I go with "etc" again).
A 3 month rental is a potential problem unless you obtain some type of visa that will permit you to be in Italy that long. Your automatic tourist visa ls good for 90 days, not 91, or 93, so plan accordingly. You will have to spend a few days outside of the Schengen area to be safe if you rent for three months.
Good point Frank.
When I say "3 months" I do refer to a 90-day period, so maybe it's best if I refer to it as 90 days to avoid confusion.
